To get ready for the launch, the two of us recently sat down with our amazing community ambassador, Charles Hardin, for a full tutorial. Whether you are building your very first list or you’re a seasoned veteran returning to the Iron Kingdoms, we’ve got some great insights, essential hobby hacks, and an unbelievable promotional offer to help you hit the ground running.
🎲 Insights from the Table: Learning with Charles
Warmachine is a fast-paced, aggressive miniatures game that rewards tactical positioning and clever resource management. During our tutorial with Charles, a few things immediately stood out about the gameplay:
- The Power of the Warcaster: Your Warcaster isn’t just a leader; they are the lynchpin of your army. Managing their “Focus” points, deciding whether to boost attacks, cast powerful spells, or allocate it to your hulking Warjacks, makes every turn an engaging puzzle.
- Synergy is Everything: It’s not just about having the biggest models. Winning comes down to how your units support each other. Charles showed us how layering buffs and timing your charges can break through even the toughest enemy armor.
- Streamlined Rules: If you’ve been intimidated by tabletop wargames in the past, don’t be! The core mechanics are intuitive, making it incredibly easy to pick up the basics while offering endless depth for veterans.
🛠️ Hobby Hacks: Building Your Warmachine Army
Before you can claim victory on the battlefield, you need to assemble your forces. Warmachine models are incredibly detailed, and after building our own forces, we wanted to pass along some pro-tips for the hobbying side of the game:
- Wash Your Sprues: Before you do anything else, wash all your model parts in warm water with a little bit of dish soap before gluing. This removes any leftover mold-release agent from the manufacturing process and ensures that your glue and primer will stick perfectly.
- Magnetize for Versatility: Many of the larger Warjacks and models come with multiple weapon options. Instead of permanently gluing one weapon loadout, use tiny magnets! This makes your larger models incredibly versatile so you can swap weapons between games. We highly recommend these magnets to get the job done:
- The “Game Changer” Glue: The specific material that modern Warmachine models are cast in requires the right adhesive. During our build session, we found a glue that was an absolute game changer for assembling these miniatures quickly and securely. You can grab the exact glue we used right here.
