River Valley Glasswork: Quick-Flowing Gameplay that Dazzles the Whole Family
River Valley Glassworks is a delightfully cozy yet engagingly sharp family-middleweight game that combines pice-placement and drafting in quick games for up to 5 players (including a solo mode).
As the river meanders through The Woodlands, it’s waters carry all sorts of dazzling pieces of glass that plucky entrepreneurial woodland critters can’t help but want to collect for their shops!
Gameplay is easy to grasp but involves tricky decision-making regarding hunting for and placing glass pieces in your shop.
Gameflow looks like this:
1.) Draft from the River:
To pull from the river, play a piece from your inventory into a river tile with the piece’s matching shape icon. Then, pick take the glass from an adjacent tile.
2.) Add to your Glassworks:
Place your new treasures in your shop. You do so in any empty, left-most column unless another piece of that same color is already in your shop. In that case, stack above the previous piece.
3.) River Flow:
The now-empty tile gets moved to the back, and the river pushes all of the other glass forward! You’ll draw from the bag to put new glass out into the river.
4.) Draw from the Lake:
Whenever you’d like to refill your inventory, draft four pieces from the lake and refill it afterwards.
5.) Scoring:
Only your two highest columns score, with your board’s right-most columns scoring the highest, so draft cleverly!
This gameplay leads to quick games that have the whole playgroup or family thinking, enjoying the tactile sensation of the “glass”, and hungry for the next round to try out a new strategy!
